My experience at the Hamilton Pool.

My experience at the Hamilton Pool.

Every so often do we come across a place that can take your breath away! We happened to visit one of those places, this spring – The Hamilton Pool. A thousand years ago, the dome of an underground river collapsed which led to the creation of the Hamilton Pool Preserve. The pool is a 45 minutes’ drive from Austin, Texas and is a popular summer destination for the residents and visitors of Austin. This preserve is also home for a variety of birds that take nest in here, the most common being the Golden–Cheeked Warbler. It is a great picnic spot and a popular escape to beat the heat.

We were there on a beautiful spring day and had to wait for about 45 minutes before we got entry in to this place. I must say, the wait was totally worth it! Even before reaching our destination, we were awestruck by the tree canopy that caught our attention as we hiked the short trail towards the pool.  In spite of it being a hot spring day, the limestone around the pool kept the preserve cool and calm. My husband and I were captivated by the panorama of the pool. We were not confident enough to swim and decided to just get our feet wet. However, the ‘not knowing swimming’ did not stop us from getting under the water fall.

After having spent a few hours at the pool, on our way back, a trail along the river side caught our attention and we decided to hike along that route. The hike was not as short I expected and if you are thinking it was the trail that was long. No, it was not, it was my husband’s sense of humor (or the lack of it) that made me feel like it took an hour. Finally, we had reached our destination, the Pedernales River. The river was serene and kept us at peace. After all the "humor", this was exactly what I needed. Nature was truly at her best!
